Final Music Video

Ancillary Texts

These are my Ancillary Texts; Magazine cover and Digipack cover. I feel that they create synergy between the two texts, of the bands image and colour scheme.

Plan for Second-Shoot

Changed plan back to playing the gig in the garden, but on the flat ground, not the roof, or school hall.
To shoot;
- Fill in the gaps of sequence + change the parts of lip syncing into a shot of the band already playing in the garden. Mostly CU of singer, or add in drummer for the parts when there's only drums.
- Film the band playing the entire song 4/5 from different angles, this will make it easier to create the second half of the video.
- Audience running out, few shots with both band and audience.
- Re shoot shot of Andy jumping off from behind, with drummer in background waiting, with one single drum and stick. This will fix continuity errors as the drummer will be there from the beginning.
- Shot of 2 girls seeing the band running and they chase after them.

Problems are, firstly, i need to ensure the day is as bright as the day when i filmed before so the lighting is the same. Secondly, I filmed during the half term which made it a lot easier to get everyone involved to be there because they didn't have school or work. i will have have a few shoots after school when everybody is free.

First shoot

FILMING

On February 24th, I commenced filming at my house with two members of the band, Steve and Arthur, along with a friend, Andy, who filled in for band members who couldn't attend. The day was really productive and I got a surprising amount of filming completed.

The video only shows up to 1:54 of a 3:29 minute song, with a couple blank bits in the middle. Firstly, this is because the actors could only stay until 4 o'clock so we didn't have enough time. Secondly, because after getting up onto the roof I made the decision that it was not safe to shoot the entire video on the slanted tiles on the side of the roof, like I had planned in the storyboard/animatic.

Later I came up with the plan to have the band running along the hedge in my garden (1:48 - 1:54) I will then, for my next shoot, film the band running across a hedge at school and then film the rest of the performance on the stage in the hall and continue the video as normal, however in a different setting.

The part when Andy jumps off the roof was actually his idea, I thought it'd be a great transition into the running part again, this could have been potentially dangerous but I thought as he was willing to do it then it was worth experimenting with, plus it's not as big a jump as it looks. Also, I added in the comedy of Arthur and Steve pointing at the ladder.

EDITING

One slight problem I faced with editing is because I was following my animatic to help guideline which shots to use. When I added bits in/made shots shorter/longer it put the music out of sync, so the parts when I wanted to have the band lip syncing, weren't in the same positions that they were before. Luckily, I realised this might be an issue during filming and I filmed them lip syncing in a few different places so I could fit it in somewhere.
Also, I hadn't put enough thought into length of shots in my animatic, so shots when they were running at the beginning were alot shorter but they ran quite quickly. I did play about with slowing the shots down but I didn't like the way it looked and I had enough footage to make it work.

IndiGO Party digipak

This is the 6 panel digipak design i have created for indiGO Party's album for my ancillary task. The band name design was an existing creation that the band had that they allowed me to feature in my work because it represents the band.
I used the colour scheme of the title as a starting point to design the rest of the Digipak.
I feel that the design is slightly too 'pop-py' because of the bright colours and jumping silhouettes and explosions, which is a bit misleading as thats not really the sound of the band. However, the pre-existing title design and the name of the band its self are both like a pop bands which didn't leave me with much else to work with.

Digipak Template

I found this template for a 6 panel CD digipak with the measurements. It contains the front part of the digipak and all the inside panels plus the shape in which the cd sits. I plan to use this to create the shape and design for my digipak
